Since 2005 I have been producing a calendar for the Down’s Syndrome Association. I am also the curator of an ever expanding exhibition and group of photographers called ‘Shifting Perspectives’. Thanks to GlaxoSmithKline we have been able tour the exhibition nationally and from 2010 will be showing worldwide. For ‘365’ I took photographs of 365 children with Down’s syndrome, all aged between 5 and 8. If you would like to know more about the project please go to:

Having heard about Sarah’s versatility as an actress I approached Sarah to collaborate with me in reconstructing Vermeer’s encounters with his sitters. Sarah’s grace, charm and character were perfect to emulate Vermeer’s elegant studies; with a modern twist. Vermeer’s images with their soft and graceful tones, subtle shadows and careful light show how significant lighting is to a strong image. Some people say that a Vermeer work shouts in soft shadows. This description could also be applied to Sarah, in that by carrying herself so well and by speaking so eloquently she is able to show ‘the public’ that people with Down’s syndrome are so much more than an outdated stereotype. By being herself she is making a very loud statement.

Shifting Pers. Perspectives

I am very proud to say that, for the past seven years I have been curating a touring exhibition called: SHIFTING PERSPECTIVES The exhibition explores the photographic representation of people with Down’s syndrome, challenging attitudes and prejudices and examining alternative representations of both adults and children. Images like ours would not have been made or seen twenty years ago, so this really is a ground- breaking exhibition. You can see all of the work and more here:

The aim of DSActive is to provide children and young adults with Down's syndrome (DS) a fair opportunity to get involved in sports, the emphasis being on football. The programme was formed in 2006 and has continued to grow ever since. The DSActive programme set out, and has so far succeeded, in offering these individuals a chance to participate in football at a level in which they are comfortable, hugely increasing the satisfaction from sport of the participants and their parents alike. More impressively, the programme has offered football to many individuals who previously had limited sporting options.
